Recently, there was a television program that giving information about how to choose safe plastic products for our babies in order to prevent a bad situation. Plastic products for babies that usually used are milk bottle, pacifier, tooth stimulus toys, babies feeding set, and others.

Plastic is one of the materials that we often find in all kind of products, such as drinking bottle, TV, refrigerator, hard pipe, laminating plastic, denture, Compact Disk (CD), nail polisher (nail remover), cosmetic bag, food container, car, machine, military tools, pesticide, and others. It's understandable for us that have owned and used products that contain Bisphenol-A to be very careful in choosing plastic products. One of the products that use plastic and contains Bisphenol-A is food and beverage industry such as food container, food cover plastic, mineral water bottle, baby's milk bottle even though now it is available baby's milk bottle and food container that do not contain Bisphenol-A. So it is safe to be used for eating and drinking. A survey proves that 95% people have used products that contain Bisphenol_A.

The reason why plastic often used because of its material that is light, unbreakable/flexible, and low cost. However, plastic has high risk for the environment and our health. That is the reason why we have to know the kind of plastic product that safely used.


Here are the description of triangle logo as the recognizing sign for safe and usable plastic product:

Logo with number 1 in the center, PETE or PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is usually used for transparent plastic bottle such as mineral water bottle, juice bottle, and almost all kind of drinking bottles. Bottles with #1 and #2 materials are recommended for one use only. Do not use for warm and very hot water. Throw away the old and scratched bottle.
-. Logo with number 2 in the center, HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) is usually used for packaging milk bottle. It is the same with PET, HDPE is also recommended for one use only.
-. Logo with number 3 in the center, V or PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is the most difficult plastic to be recycled. This plastic could be found in wrapping plastic (Cling Wrap) and bottles. Materials of PVC which is DEHA in the wrapping plastic could be leak and goes into the oiling food when it is heated. PVC is potentially dangerous for kidney, liver, and our weight.
-. Logo with number 4 in the center, LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) is usually used for food container and soft bottles. The #4 products could not be destroyed but they are still good for food container.

Logo with number 5 in the center, PP (Polypropylene) is the best choice for plastic material especially for food and beverage product such as food container, drinking bottle, and baby's milk bottle. A way to indetify baby's milk bottle product is clean, clear, hard, and thick bottle. For this baby's type PP milk bottle, it is better to be sterilized (boiled) not more than 5minutes. You have to look for this symbol if you intend to buy plastic product.
-. Logo with number 6 in the center, PS (Polystyrene) is usually used as food container (Styrofoam), one use only drinking place, and others. The Polystyrene material could leak styrene material to the food when the food touches the product. The Styrine material is dangerous for brain and neuron system. Except for food container, styrene could be get from cigarette smoke, smoke from vehicle, and building construction material. This material has to be prevented and lots of states in USA have already prevented the using of Styrofoam, including China.
-. Logo with number 7 in the center, Other (Usually Polycarbonate) is in the food and drinking container such as sport drinking bottle. Polycarbonate could produce its main material which is Bisphenol-A into the food and drink that potentially damage hormonal system. Avoid the Polycarbonate plastic material.

You have to start from now to pay attention about the product that we want to buy and do not hesitate to buy plastic product that has logo no.5 (PP) although the price is expensive. Family's health must come first.

Please avoid throwing away the plastic garbage that contains Bisphenol-A at any place because the material can contaminate the soil water and drinking water sources.
